Index Manager Feature Overview

New features released in Index Manager 6.0 Enterprise

· Combine several archives into a single large one – without compromising performance
· Set up a backup archive that kicks in the second the main archive needs maintenance
· Balance server load by distributing searches evenly between two identically configured servers

In many ways, Index Manager is the nervous system of a FotoWare installation. It keeps track of all the files in your system and makes them available for users of FotoStation and FotoWeb, processing searches and delivering search results at great speed.

With Unions you can combine several archives to create a truly enormous archive with even millions of files, without compromising search speed. A union server connects to other Index Manager servers in the network and can be used to combine archives from several servers.

It can also be used to control two identically configured servers so that one can act as a backup in the event that the main server fails. The transition will be practically unnoticeable to a user, since the backup server takes over without interference.

Unions are also of great value in systems with much search traffic. By combining two identically configured Index Manager servers in a union, the union server can distribute searches evenly between the two servers to balance the load.

For ultimate performance you can even combine two identically configured servers and make them “compete” to deliver the search result fastest to the client.
